What Does the Ideal Shababeek Learner Look Like?

Traits of Successful Learners

Participates Deeply

Instead of a chalkboard and a dense textbook, we encourage learning through participation. Trying to learn the steps to make coffee? Why not learn while actually making it? Our goal of participation in the world starts right here in our center!

Develops Intuition

Know the difference between a participle and a gerund? Most people don’t. Yet they speak their native language well and can ‘feel’ what is right. That’s the goal with Arabic! Over time, as we embrace ambiguity and listen in abundance, we naturally develop the same sense of what feels correct and incorrect.

Developing this intuition is a key step towards Arabic fluency.

Expands Worldview

We all have ideas about politics, current events, religion, and culture. Yet we also have so much to learn! Teachability, humility and good listening skills go far in our efforts to expand our understanding of another worldview.

We seek to understand before we seek to be understood.

Commits!

We know your time is valuable. We also know what it takes to feel successful in Arabic. Want to see rapid growth and progress? Commit to being with us full-time (10-25 hours per week). It’s worth it.

At Shababeek, we only accept full-time participants (10-25 hours a week). By only serving full-time participants, we are able to focus on each learners’ personal development fully.

Is Dedicated

The best learners are those who take charge of their own learning process. We’re here to help and support you, but we can’t do the work for you. Your progress towards Arabic fluency is dictated by the amount of time and effort spent on language and cultural acquisition, in and outside of the center.
